Clipsal raises a finger to support EJ Whitten Foundation

Clipsal by Schneider Electric has announced a two year partnership with the EJ Whitten Foundation to create greater awareness of prostate cancer and raise funds for research.

The Official Club Clipsal charity commences in 2012 however foundation CEO, Ted Whitten Jr has already presented at Club Clipsal fund raising dinners and seminars.

David Raggatt, Club Clipsal Customer Relations Manager said that the partnership was a great fit for Clipsal.

"So many of our customers and Club Clipsal Members are male and many of them are in that age bracket that you would consider at risk. Our members are totally behind the charity and we look forward to working with the foundation and giving our support."

Ted Whitten Jr welcomed Clipsal's support and welcomed "new opportunities" to promote prostate cancer awareness.

"Men are not invincible and need to get tested. Men are reluctant to do that but we want to help. My dad let his symptoms fester for two years because he didn't have the education we are trying to give out to men now. Today, every bloke can be tested with just one ten second blood test."

Edward James "Ted" Whitten played 321 games for the Footscray Football Club and was fiercely passionate about State of Origin football. Suffering from prostate cancer in 1995, his emotional lap of honour with son Ted Whitten Jr at the MCG prior to the Victoria versus South Australia match, is now regarded as one of the greatest emotional scenes in Aussie Rules history. That lap of honour and his passing led to the foundation that bears his name and the annual AFL Legends Game.

The foundation receives no government funding and relies on fundraising events, sponsorship, bequests and public donations. Last year over a quarter of a million dollars was raised for male health research and awareness.
