Action packed Clipsal 500 launch
Twilight racing action, an ‘eighties’ theme to the Saturday night concert, fireworks synchronized to music, a new look for the Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines, a new grandstand and family ticket offers, and new corporate facilities are to be highlights of next year’s Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar carnival to be held in Adelaide from March 17-20.
“Action Packed” is the theme leading up to next year’s event, launched at the Adelaide Casino on Wednesday, September 23.
“Twilight GT racing will be a part of the new program said, South Australian Motor Sport Board Chairman Mr. Roger Cook, AO.
This will allow fans to witness the excitement of cars competing into the dusk with lights blazing and disc brake rotors glowing. These same cars will be included into Murray Walker Extreme Machines car display, free access to all Clipsal 500 Adelaide ticketholders.
The organisers were keen to develop the family value aspect of the event. Mr. Cook also announced a new concert format for the Saturday night of the event – free to all Clipsal 500 Adelaide ticketholders – as the Radio Mix 102.3 Eighties Flashback concert followed by the Mix 102.3 Big Bang Fireworks display.
The band line-up for the Saturday concert will include Mondo Rock, The Uncanny X-Men, Pseudo Echo, and The Chantoozies with Brian Mannix (The Uncanny X-Men) and Ally Fowler.
Last year’s event saw a four day attendance of 277 000 fans and brought $34 million dollars of economic activity to the city including 66 000 hotel room bookings.
Making a special appearance on stage were V8 drivers, James Courtney, Steve Richards, Garth Tander and Jason Bright.
Garth commented that the Clipsal 500 had already reached “marquee status” in Australian sport. “If you just say the word Clipsal, everyone knows what you’re talking about. People just understand it.”
Executive General Manager of Clipsal Australia, Damien Cummins told the audience how delighted he was to hear everyone continually referring to the race as “The Clipsal.”
“Some 2500 electrical contractor customers would be joining us for the event from all over the world from all over Australia and as far as New Zealand and South Africa.”
Damien also mentioned that the event was the perfect launching pad to promote Clipsal’s home energy efficiency auditing campaign.
Deputy Premier Kevin Foley who unveiled the 2011 event’s official poster and promotional theme – “It’s Action Packed” said that some $4.1m of grandstand advanced sales had already been achieved for the 2011 event, representing sixty six per cent (66%) of the seats available.
Mr Foley commended the Clipsal 500 team saying that it was quite an achievement and special skillset required to deliver such an outstanding event on time. “I have never spent a waking moment worrying if the event would be delivered on time.”
Other concert acts are to be announced in the coming months.
