WHAT TYPE OF SMOKE ALARM SHOULD I BUY?
Two types of smoke alarms are available: Ionisation and Photoelectric. Each senses smoke using a different method and responds differently depending on the type of material that may be burning. It is therefore important to select the correct alarm to suit the location in which it is installed.
Important Recommendation:
For maximum protection a combination of both types of smoke alarms should be used throughout your home or building. This ensures the earliest possible warning in the event of a fire, increasing the chances of escape and survival.
Remember, once the fire takes hold, there may be very little time to evacuate before the occupants are overcome by lethal smoke and toxic fumes.

PHOTOELECTRIC ALARMS
Photoelectric smoke alarms are sensitive to larger (often very toxic) smoke particles typically produced by smoldering fire types (such as those which may involve foam, rubber plastics and other synthetic materials commonly used in household furniture).
Photoelectric alarms are generally preferred in most situations as they are less prone to false alarming due to moisture/humidity, cooking fumes (burnt toast), cigarette smoke and the like.
Typical Applications
General use, bedrooms, lounge / living rooms, dining room areas, adjacent to the kitchen, laundry or bathroom. Can also be used in areas exposed to cigarette smoke and many more.

IONISATION ALARMS
Ionisation smoke alarms are the most common type of detectors. They are more sensitive to smaller smoke particles typically produced by fast flaming fires (such as those involving burning paper, straw or wood).
Ionisation alarms respond faster to smoke conditions, but are more prone to false alarming due to moisture/humidity, cooking fumes (burnt toast), cigarette smoke and the like. Ionisation alarms are ideal for general use in the home or office, however great care should be taken in selecting an installation location.
Typical Applications
General use, hallways, corridors, study, home office, commercial offices and many more.
WHAT IS A FLUSH MOUNT SMOKE ALARM?
Adding to the already popular range of Clipsal FireTek™ Smoke Alarms, Clipsal has introduced a stylish new flush mount smoke alarm, which offers the ultimate level of protection.
The sleek and low profile 755FM Ionisation and 755PFM Photoelectric smoke alarms have been designed to virtually blend into the ceiling of any home or office.
Similar in size to a standard Clipsal downlight, the slimline design provides the same important safety benefits as Clipsal’s range of surface mount smoke alarms, but has the aesthetic advantage of being over 60 per cent smaller in size.
The flush mount smoke alarm can be interconnected, allowing multiple units (up to 40) to be interconnected – when one unit detects smoke particles, all units will sound the alarm.
The clever design also allows easy and safe access during replacement of the battery.
Believed to be the world’s first unique, fully-recessed design, these alarms blend in seamlessly with any décor – the perfect way to ensure safety and protection without compromising on style.
