C-Thru Dimmers

The Choice is Clear and Simple!

A Clipsal C-Thru™ Dimmer lets you adjust the lighting levels in any area, for any occasion. For instance, you may want to add a little romance to an intimate dinner, create the right mood for a movie, or leave just enough light on to navigate your way to the bathroom.

In commercial environments too, light dimmers have an almost endless number of applications. Auditoriums, restaurants and boardrooms are just a few of the possible locations in which a dimmer will offer you full control of lighting to suit any occasion, and the new C-Thru™ dimmers enable you to choose the right dimmer, first time - every time.

TIPS

  • Candles can be dangerous when left unattended, use a dimmer to create the perfect mood instead.
  • Use dimmers instead of separately switched circuits for a softer overall effect.
  • Energy savings. Dimmers can also reduce your power bill.

The colour coding product classification process is subject to patent pending.

C-Thru™ dimmer/fan control mechanisms

The C-Thru™ dimmer unit comprises a separately switched, compact, modular dimming mechanism rated at 450W (1.8A). The units utilise state-of-the-art Leading Edge and Trailing Edge dimming technology to provide full control of incandescent and low voltage lighting (using either iron core or electronic transformers - refer to load compatibility table).

Fan Speed Controller units are rated at 500W (2A), and may be used to provide continuous variable speed control of motor loads such as ceiling sweep fans and exhaust fans.

The C-Thru™ Product Range is suitable for use in any new installation, but is also retrofittable, and may be used to replace a standard switch in any existing installation.

Please note that the C-Thru™ Range of Dimmer and Fan Speed Controller products is immune to the effects of high frequency (ripple) signal injection on the mains voltage supply. These signals are commonly injected onto the mains by the supply authority for such applications as off-peak hot water switching, and remote meter monitoring.

This patented Australian design innovation ensures true flicker-free dimming operation.

Load compatibility

Each product in the Clipsal C-Thru™ Dimmer Range is colour coded to indicate load compatibility. This colour coding concept (patent pending) allows easy selection of the right dimmer for your application.

Compatibility markings

In a market first, Clipsal has teamed up with other industry leaders and lighting manufacturers to colour code both dimmer and load, allowing unprecedented ease in compatible product selection. Never before has it been so simple to choose the right dimmer or fan control product to suit your application. All advertised compatible loads are 100% tested to guarantee superior quality and performance.

Look for the compatibility sticker on selected lighting and fan control products.

How a dimmer works

A dimmer uses an electronic circuit to regulate the amount of average power applied to the load. The lower the average power, the lower the light intensity; the higher the power, the brighter the load becomes. Most dimmers use a “wave chopping” technique known as phase angle control to achieve dimming control over various loads. There are two main types of phase control:

Leading Edge Phase Control
240V mains input

Maximum Brightness / Speed Setting

Load switched ON part way through mains half cycle

Minimum Brightness / Speed Setting

Adjusting the dimmer control setting changes the point at which the dimmer output switches ON

Trailing Edge Phase Control
240V mains input

Maximum Brightness

Load switched OFF part way through mains half cycle

Minimum Brightness

Adjusting the dimmer control setting changes the point at which the dimmer output switches OFF
