The 2007 Clipsal 500 Adelaide V8 Supercar event will be held from March 1-4.
‘We are delighted with this date and we now invite all Victorian fans to Adelaide to see their beloved V8 Supercars now they won’t be appearing at the Grand Prix in Melbourne in March’, South Australian Motor Sport (SAMSB) Chief Executive Andrew Daniels said today.
The date for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide as Round 1 of the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship Series was confirmed today following the release of the Melbourne Formula One race date late last week.
‘The Clipsal 500 Adelaide is Australia’s largest domestic motor sport event this year attracting another record crowd of 270,300, and with the decision made by V8 Supercars Australia not to race at the Grand Prix it means that Melbourne will not host a V8 Supercar event until the second half of 2007.
As a result I would expect many more Melbournians to make the trip to Adelaide to see what renowned international motor sport commentator Murray Walker has described as the best touring car festival in the world’.
Mr. Daniels said it was significant that the Clipsal 500 Adelaide had retained its position as the first round of the 2007 Championship.
‘It’s important as it showcases the Championship at the biggest V8 Supercar event in the nation, and brings more people and sponsors to the Adelaide race as the new car and driver line-ups are run for the first time.
Today’s announcement of the date will allow fans to confirm their travel and accommodation arrangements’.
Mr. Daniels said that planning for the 2007 ‘was already well underway’ and that advance sales of both corporate and grandstand tickets were at record levels.

Ticket holders at this year’s event were able to pre-book using the event’s “Price Cap” scheme that offered tickets to the 2007 event in advance.
‘Now that we have a date, regular ticket sales will commence as from tomorrow through BASS.
‘We will continue to run a four day event with on-circuit concerts free to Clipsal 500 Adelaide ticket holders every night. The support race program will again be the largest in the nation, and we are also planning special displays on circuit and above the circuit in terms of the air show’.
Mr. Daniels said the SAMSB was also committed to further improvements in terms of spectator and other amenities for next year’s event.
‘Corporate facilities, grandstand seating, shade, superscreens, catering, and general event presentation are all on the agenda to look for improvements for the 2007 event’.
The Clipsal 500 Adelaide has been inducted in the V8 Supercar Hall of Fame, and is the only event to have received that honour. It has also been awarded the title of Australia’s best national festival or special event on two occasions.
