Tara Dennis ‘Electrical Confessions’

Tara Dennis, Clipsal’s ambassador for the 2005/6 Clipsal ‘every room, every home’ campaign, has been living in her Sydney home with her family for five years.
When it comes to her electrical, she is very attentive to the smallest details. Here are some of her lifestyle secrets and electrical tips…

1. I have fallen for my home… because of its potential and the size of the block, a good old quarter acre! Blocks of this size are becoming very rare in Sydney! We are also near the Hawkesbury River, which means plenty of good walking tracks and places for picnics.

2. As a designer… I really do enjoy the creative process as well as the challenge.  Good design allows things to look great as well as add enjoyment and ease to everyday living.

3. As an Australian… I enjoy freedom. I love walking… especially in the Snowy Mountains in summer time. I haven't been much lately because of so many work deadlines but am hoping to get away soon.

4. As a mum… I like sharing, guiding, nurturing and having an organised home where things run smoothly!

5. My last electrical accessory purchase isPowertainment Unit. A clever product. With six power sockets, it takes care of the tangled jumble of cords that are inevitable in that area and avoids the dangerous use of double adapters. I can now safely and directly connect my TV, DVD player, set top box and stereo and use my laptop with the TV as I had a data socket fitted within the unit.

6. The first electrical accessory I touch in the morning is… the button of my remote control for the exhaust 3 in 1 fan in my bathroom. It gives me a great light for doing my make-up, has heat globes to really take the chill off the room, which is very good because the bathroom can get very cool overnight.

7. The last one before falling asleep… bedside switches fitted. For the sheer convenience of never having to get out of a warm bed and turn the lights off.  These allow the overhead lighting in my bedroom as well as all of the lamps to be switched on and off all with the press of a button.

8. My energy-saver productPush button timers on my heated towels rails.  They are set to automatically shut of after one hour – long enough to dry the towels perfectly, ready for the next use.

9. A simple touch…The simple ideas are often the best, like an automatic cut-off switch on my iron, in case I leave it on when I go to work.

10. My trendy product … a home security system. Sadly it is becoming a modern trend.

11. A touch of romanticism… with dimmer Switches, they not only create lighting which can be adjusted to suit any mood, but also because they reduce power usage.

12. My winter essential… a ducted air-conditioning system so that we can enjoy a warm home in winter.  In the bathrooms we added the luxury of thermostatically controlled under floor heating – on bare feet a warm floor is heavenly.

13. I’m loving it… the convenience of removable covers on switch plates when I paint and decorate.  The brushed stainless steel ones look both elegant and modern, otherwise I like classic, simple white.
